Why I Love Storytelling Wedding Photography (and Why You Will Too)

If you’re planning your wedding and wondering what kind of photographer suits your day, let me introduce myself.

I’m Mark Armstrong, a wedding photographer based in Wolverhampton, and I specialise in relaxed, natural photography that tells the real story of your day — no awkward posing, no staged moments, just honest, beautiful memories.

Capturing More Than Just a Moment

When you think of wedding photography, you probably picture classic poses, big smiles, and perfectly placed bouquets. But for me, wedding photography is about something much deeper — it’s about telling a story.
Storytelling wedding photography captures the little moments, the raw emotions, and the real connections between people. It’s these fleeting, unposed memories that tell the full story of your wedding day — and that’s why I love what I do.

What Is Storytelling Wedding Photography?

Storytelling wedding photography, also known as documentary-style photography, is about capturing your day as it naturally unfolds. No forced smiles. No stiff posing. Just real moments, beautifully told.

From the nervous laughter while getting ready, to the tear in a parent’s eye during the ceremony, to the wild dancefloor antics at the reception — these are the scenes that make your story unique.

Why It Matters for You

As a couple, you’ve got a hundred things going on during your wedding day — and it’s easy to miss the little moments. That’s where storytelling photography comes in. My job is to capture not just how your day looks, but how it feels.

You’ll get to relive the real, unscripted moments — like your partner’s face when they first see you, your nan laughing during the speeches, or the spontaneous dance moves after a few glasses of fizz. These are the memories that often mean the most, and they’re the ones you’ll want to hold onto.

What It Means on the Day

You won’t be constantly pulled away for poses or asked to act out scenes. Instead, you can relax and focus on being present with the people you love. I quietly observe, follow the flow of the day, and photograph the magic as it naturally happens.

Most of my couples say they barely noticed me — and that’s exactly how it should be. You’re not there for the camera; you’re there for each other. And that’s what I capture.
